Volunteer Coordinator – Independent Contractor (1099) Pets & People Foundation (www.petsandpeople.org) Position Overview The Pets & People Foundation is seeking a passionate and organized Volunteer Coordinator to join us in our mission of providing pet therapy to those in need. This role is vital in fostering meaningful connections between volunteers, their animals, and the communities we serve. Key Responsibilities • Recruit, interview, and onboard volunteers and their pets into the pet therapy program. • During the recruitment process, all new candidates will be required to have a one-on-one call with the Volunteer Coordinator, lasting approximately 30 to 45 minutes. • Organize and schedule pet therapy visits at hospitals, schools, senior centers, and other community facilities. • Coordinate pet therapy visits with corporate organizations in addition to community facilities. • Coordinate with certified trainer(s) who will provide official certification for volunteers and their pets. • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers, keeping them informed about upcoming opportunities and organizational updates, including drafting volunteer outreach via email and/or newsletter. • Oversee the annual recertification of all current volunteer teams, ensuring recertification is completed by October 31st each year. • Develop and maintain volunteer schedules, as well as updating volunteer data system. • Serve as a liaison between volunteers, their pets, and partner organizations. • Track and evaluate volunteer engagement, providing regular reports to leadership. • Manage donation letters and acknowledgments. • Oversee condolence letters for pets that have passed while being part of Pets & People. • Ensure all safety, compliance, and risk management protocols are followed. • Assist with reoccurring program logistics. Qualifications • 10+ years of experience in volunteer management, preferably in pet therapy or animal-focused programs. Transferable career experience in organizational management or leadership role considered. • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in marketing, business, communications or science. • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. • Strong written and verbal communication skills. • Must be solutions-minded, with problem-solving skills. • Ability to multitask and coordinate multiple events and volunteers. • Proficiency in Excel for data collection, reporting, and analysis. • Proficient in Microsoft Word. • Familiarity with Wix websites is beneficial. • Compassion for animals and people, with a deep commitment to community service. • Experience with CRM software or volunteer management systems is a plus. • Familiarity with database management systems is a plus. • Must use own software, equipment, and workspace. • Ability to work independently, with minimal oversight. • Must be self-motivated with proactive initiative. Compensation • This is a part-time 1099 position, approximately 20 hours per week, flexible hours, remote. • Compensation is hourly, $30-$35 per hour, commensurate with experience. • Potential to expand the scope of the role and lead new initiatives, especially if grant writing and/or fund development experience.
