An international food company is seeking for a qualified Senior Director of sales who has experience in functional ingredients industry for 3-7 + years. Experience in presenting functional ingredients to vitamin companies and other food/beverage company. This company has been around for about 100 years in Japan and able to locate their product at grocery stores and other specialty stores. Company: please apply to learn more about the company and company name Location: Work from home – anywhere in the United States (headquarter is in Torrance, California) Direct Hire/ Exempt Salary: $200K/yr (negotiable DOE) + bonus (no commission) Title: Senior Director of Sales Business Hour: Monday to Friday – flex time if work 8 hours/day Work from home with travel Great benefits: Medical/ Dental / Vision – (100% for employee, 50% for family) Vacation, National Holiday, 401K, Life Insurance General Position Summary The Senior Director of Sales, Functional Ingredients is responsible for leading and executing sales strategies to drive revenue growth, manage distributor relationships, and expand market share in the United States. As part of a small, cross-functional team, this role also provides strategic support in business development, marketing execution, and technical coordination as needed to ensure the success of the business. This position plays a key role in shaping and communicating the value proposition of functional ingredients through data-driven sales strategies and competitive market positioning. Job Description Business Management · Lead cross-functional business planning processes, aligning sales, operations, finance, and marketing to deliver integrated results. · Oversee P&L performance for assigned business units, ensuring financial targets are met through disciplined cost management and revenue growth. · Drive operational efficiency by implementing business processes, systems, and reporting tools that enable scalable growth. · Partner with executive leadership to evaluate investment opportunities, new markets, and product launches, balancing risk and return. · Ensure compliance with corporate governance, legal, and regulatory requirements while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. · Provide clear business insights and recommendations to the CEO and Board, supporting strategic decision-making. Sales Strategy & Leadership · Develop and implement a sales growth strategy focused on both short-term revenue targets and long-term expansion. · Establish and manage sales KPIs, forecasting, planning, and budgeting. · Drive accountability within the distributor sales team, ensuring performance aligns with agreed financial results. · Utilize competitive market insights to refine sales messaging, differentiate offerings, and enhance distributor sales strategies. · Cultivate a high-performance, results-driven sales culture focused on new business generation and key account expansion. Distributor & Customer Management · Provide leadership and support for distributor sales channels, ensuring they meet sales targets. · Drive business development efforts by strengthening existing customer relationships and actively identifying and securing new strategic accounts. · Conduct joint customer calls and meetings to maintain strong engagement and business development. · Travel domestically and internationally as needed to engage with customers and distributors. · Assist customers in understanding the benefits of raw materials by preparing and presenting updated research and scientific findings. Marketing Strategy & Sales Enablement · Develop and execute marketing strategies in close partnership with the marketing function. · Analyze and compare products with competitors to highlight unique advantages and refine sales positioning. · Utilize competitive insights to refine product messaging and equip the sales team with compelling differentiators. · Provide strategic input into marketing materials, ensuring alignment with sales objectives. · Ensure alignment between sales goals and marketing efforts, prioritizing high-impact activities. · Support and oversee trade show planning, ensuring strategic engagement with key customers and prospects. Cross-Functional Support (As Needed) · Given the small team structure, this role may provide strategic input in the following areas to support business growth: · Regulatory & Technical Liaison: Facilitate collaboration between customers, headquarters, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance and technical alignment. · Operational Coordination: Support order management, logistics, and fulfillment in collaboration with the supply chain team. · Trade Show & Promotional Efforts: Assist in planning key industry events and ensuring high-quality customer engagement at trade shows. · Technical Project Support: Liaise with headquarters in Japan to obtain necessary data for regulatory submissions and product development. · Scientific & Analytical Support: Support regulatory and technical teams by facilitating necessary data exchange for GRAS submissions and clinical trial planning · Other duties as assigned. Job Requirements · Bachelor’s Degree in biology or a related scientific field from an accredited university or college, or possesses an equivalent combination of education and experience. · 3-7+ years of experience in functional ingredients selling to vitamin, pharmaceutical, food and beverage industry. · Advanced selling and negotiation skills. · Must be able to travel nationally including West & East Coast (once a month for 3-5 days) · Must demonstrate sales planning, forecasting, and sales execution experience · Proficient in EXCEL spreadsheet and PowerPoint presentation software. · Must show proven ability to build and maintain strong, effective relationships with customers and functional groups. · Must show aptitude to effectively interpret and use multiple information sources to develop customer-specific tactical plans and options. · Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. · Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
