Description of Work This position serves within the Division of Air Quality’s Ambient Monitoring Section, leading in the development, revision, and implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPPs) while ensuring program compliance and data integrity. This position primarily works to analyze and validate collected ambient monitoring data according to federal and state standards. This position communicates quality issues with and provides technical support to ambient monitoring staff in regional offices, local and tribal programs and the Electronics and Calibration Branch electronics technicians regarding any inconsistencies with data or equipment or other monitoring issues. Secondarily, the position supports and conducts qualitative audits of regional offices, local agencies, industrial sources, the Laboratory Branch, and the Electronics and Calibration Branch, and provides technical assistance to ensure the collection of high-quality ambient monitoring data. It is responsible for preparing annual and special reports that represent the State’s air quality status, where accuracy is essential due to the regulatory, financial, and public health implications of the data. The role also performs advanced analyses and validation of air pollution data produced using complex instrumentation, applying established methods and scientific principles to interpret quantitative and qualitative results. In addition, the position supports method development, remains current on emerging technologies and EPA guidance, and may serve in an acting supervisory capacity when needed.
