Job Description – Web Developer III (WordPress)

Duration: 12-Month Contract (Potential Extension)
About the Role
Meta is seeking an experienced Web Developer III to support the development and maintenance of large-scale WordPress-based marketing and informational websites. This role focuses on building new features, improving performance, fixing bugs, and maintaining enterprise-grade web properties in a fast-paced environment.
The ideal candidate will bring deep experience in WordPress engineering, strong expertise in PHP and JavaScript, and hands-on experience building custom WordPress themes and plugins from the ground up. This position requires a strong focus on secure coding practices, scalability, performance optimization, and an AI-first development workflow.
Key Responsibilities
• Build, maintain, and improve WordPress site functionality using PHP, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
• Develop and customize WordPress plugins and themes from scratch
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues across WordPress applications
• Implement new features and enhancements for Meta-branded websites
• Optimize website responsiveness, scalability, and performance
• Work closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Conduct code reviews and maintain technical documentation
• Follow secure coding standards and best practices for enterprise-scale web development
• Leverage AI-powered development tools (e.g., Claude, DevMate, Copilot, ChatGPT) to improve coding efficiency and delivery speed
Required Qualifications
• 5+ years of professional experience in WordPress development or web engineering
• Strong experience with PHP and modern JavaScript
• Proven experience developing custom WordPress themes and plugins
• Solid understanding of WordPress architecture, including:
• Hooks, Actions, and Filters
• WordPress PHP APIs
• REST API
• Gutenberg / Block Editor
• Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, accessibility, and maintainable web practices
• Experience deploying and maintaining enterprise or high-traffic WordPress websites
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, changing environment
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with WordPress VIP
• Prior experience supporting enterprise-scale or media company WordPress environments
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development workflows
• Previous experience in high-visibility, large-scale public-facing websites
• Prior Meta experience is a plus
