Staff Software Engineer, Airfam Products

Description: • Lead the technical vision and architecture for Airfam Products’ platform with a focus on scalability, reliability, and maintainability. • Partner with engineering directors, product managers, and cross-functional leaders to align platform work with company priorities. • Architect and implement production-ready AI/ML-integrated systems, including LLM-powered features for OneChat and enterprise search. • Drive technical initiatives across Infrastructure, Security, and Product teams to deliver company-wide solutions. • Mentor and develop engineers across multiple levels through design reviews, architecture discussions, and hands-on guidance. • Define and evolve engineering best practices, including standards for testing, observability, and operational excellence. • Evaluate emerging technologies and AI development approaches to inform platform strategy and delivery. • Troubleshoot complex production issues, lead incident response, and drive root-cause remediation. • Contribute directly through code reviews, system design, and debugging while multiplying team effectiveness. • Represent Airbnb engineering in internal forums and, when appropriate, external conferences and industry events. Requirements: • 10+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years working on distributed systems at scale. • Experience leading complex technical initiatives from concept through delivery at cross-team or company-wide scale. • Expert proficiency in modern programming languages such as TypeScript, Python, Go, or Java. • Deep experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP, including Kubernetes and container orchestration. • Strong experience with API design and implementation using REST and GraphQL, with attention to performance and developer experience. • Demonstrated experience building and optimizing systems that integrate with AI/ML services and LLM technologies. • Experience mentoring engineers at multiple career stages and improving engineering culture through best practices and documentation. • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills and the ability to influence without authority across organizational boundaries. • Clear communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to executives and stakeholders. • BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience. • Preferred: experience building enterprise-grade internal tools and developer productivity platforms. • Preferred: familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform. • Preferred: experience with large-scale messaging systems such as Kafka and data pipelines. • Preferred: background in frontend technologies such as React and Next.js, with full-stack development experience. • Preferred: MS in Computer Science or a related technical field. • Preferred: experience with AI-assisted development tools and agentic development strategies. Benefits: • US-remote eligible role with occasional office or offsite attendance as needed. • Base salary range of $204,000 to $255,000 USD. • Eligibility for bonus compensation. • Eligibility for equity. • Eligibility for benefits. • Eligibility for Employee Travel Credits.
