With a rich history of engineering excellence and a focus on sustainability, safety, and reliability, Boeing serves customers across commercial, defense, space, and security sectors. The company fosters a diverse and inclusive environment that encourages collaboration, continuous learning, and professional growth. Its mission is to connect, protect, explore, and inspire through aerospace advancements that benefit humanity worldwide. About The Role We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Systems Engineer to join our Phantom Works Open Architecture Systems Integrated Software (OASIS) Solutions team located in Berkeley, Missouri. This role is pivotal in supporting Boeing's Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization, focusing on the development and integration of complex software systems for critical defense applications. The successful candidate will apply advanced systems engineering principles in modern software environments, emphasizing DevSecOps pipelines, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native architectures. The role involves working across disciplines to seamlessly integrate hardware, software, and mission systems within secure environments, ensuring system performance, security, and mission assurance. Collaboration with developers, test engineers, and system architects will be integral to validating end-to-end system functionality and readiness for operational deployment. Qualifications The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, computer science, or related fields, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in requirements management, software integration, testing, validation, and verification. Experience with test automation, scripting, and modern software development practices is essential. Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree such as an MS or PhD in Systems Engineering or related disciplines, along with familiarity with engineering tools like requirements management systems (e.g., DOORS), model-based systems engineering (e.g., MBSE tools like Cameo), and collaboration platforms (Jira, Confluence, Git). Strong analytical, problem-solving, and systems thinking skills are required, along with experience working on mission-critical systems such as avionics, command and control architectures, embedded systems, or sensor systems. Candidates should also have knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines, with an understanding of certification frameworks relevant to defense and aerospace programs. Responsibilities • Review, develop, document, and maintain comprehensive system requirements and ensure traceability throughout the system lifecycle. • Define and implement test strategies, plans, procedures, and acceptance criteria for component, integration, and system-level testing activities. • Design and execute verification and validation activities, including functional, interface, performance, reliability, and regression testing. • Analyze test results, conduct root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions to resolve issues effectively. • Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams comprising software developers, system architects, and test engineers to validate end-to-end system functionality and mission effectiveness. • Lead the integration of hardware, software, and mission systems within secure Department of Defense environments, ensuring interoperability and performance standards are met. • Implement modern DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, containerized deployments, and infrastructure as code, to streamline system integration and testing processes. • Configure, stand up, and maintain secure test environments leveraging cloud-native and virtualized resources, such as AWS GovCloud or Azure Government. • Utilize model-based systems engineering (MBSE) tools and requirements management systems to support system design, analysis, and traceability efforts. • Participate in risk, issue, and opportunity management activities, assessing technical readiness and identifying critical path impacts. • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by automating processes, collecting metrics, and applying lessons learned to enhance reliability and efficiency. • Document integration results, test findings, and system assessments for design reviews, readiness evaluations, and customer deliverables. • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across projects, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
