The Senior Motive Power Technician is a highly experienced, field‑focused technical expert responsible for advanced service, diagnostics, installation, and maintenance of industrial motive power battery systems and chargers. This role supports customers across multiple sites and regions based on business needs, with approximately 75% travel. When not in the field, the technician will support shop activity, training, and technical leadership initiatives.
This position serves as a technical leader and mentor, representing the company at customer sites and ensuring work is executed safely, professionally, and to the highest technical standards.

Key Responsibilities
Field Service & Technical Expertise
Travel extensively to customer sites to perform advanced troubleshooting and repair of industrial motive power batteries (lead‑acid and lithium) and chargers (single‑ and three‑phase).
Lead complex diagnostics of electrical and mechanical faults using schematics, digital meters, load banks, and manufacturer software/tools.
Plan and execute battery and charger installations, replacements, and commissioning at customer sites, including layout planning, cabling, labeling, and startup.
Perform comprehensive proactive and preventive maintenance, including:
Inspections and cleaning
Watering and electrolyte management
Specific gravity and voltage testing
Equalize charging
Capacity and load testing
Assess overall battery and charger health and provide clear, actionable recommendations (repair, replacement, or upgrades) to customers.
Customer Interface & Leadership
Serve as a primary technical point of contact at customer locations.
Communicate findings, solutions, and maintenance best practices in a professional and customer‑focused manner.
Mentor and train junior and intermediate technicians on:
Safe work practices
Troubleshooting techniques
Field service standards
Act as a role model for safety, quality, and professionalism in the field.
Safety, Compliance & Coordination
Ensure strict compliance with electrical safety requirements, including lockout/tagout procedures, PPE use, and battery‑room safety standards.
Coordinate closely with dispatch, parts, engineering, and sales teams to:
Schedule travel and service calls
Order required parts
Support contracted service and larger field projects
Participate in on‑call rotations, emergency response, and after‑hours service as required.
Documentation & Continuous Improvement
Maintain accurate documentation of:
Work performed
Test results
Parts usage
Time and travel entries
Provide feedback to management and engineering on:
Recurring field issues
Product or charger performance trends
Opportunities to improve service efficiency and reliability
Qualifications

Basic Requirements
High school diploma or GED.
3+ years of hands‑on experience servicing industrial DC power systems, including forklift or motive power batteries and chargers.
Strong working knowledge of:
DC electrical systems
Single‑ and three‑phase industrial chargers
Battery testing, diagnostics, and maintenance methods
Proficiency with testing equipment such as digital multimeters, hydrometers, and load banks.
Demonstrated ability to work safely around energized electrical equipment and high‑energy battery systems.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
Willingness and ability to travel approximately 75% of the time to support customer sites based on business needs.
Preferred
Prior experience in a senior, lead, or field service role within motive power, material handling, telecom/UPS DC systems, or related industries.
Experience working with both lead‑acid and lithium battery technologies.
OEM or industry training/certifications related to motive power systems, chargers, and battery safety.
Working knowledge of OSHA general industry electrical safety, lockout/tagout requirements, and battery‑room safety guidelines.
Basic computer skills for documentation, email, and use of service or ERP systems.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
Regularly lift and handle equipment and components weighing 50–75 lbs with proper tools and assistance.
Work in diverse environments, including:
Warehouses
Manufacturing facilities
Customer battery rooms and equipment areas
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and work in confined or industrial spaces.
Willingness to work overtime, irregular hours, and participate in on‑call coverage to meet customer needs.
Comfortable with frequent travel, overnight stays, and changing work locations.
