The Opportunity We are primarily seeking professionals with an engineering or technical background and experience supporting students through selective college admissions, particularly for undergraduate engineering and STEM programs. We will also consider exceptional college admissions counselors without a technical degree if they have a demonstrated track record of successfully guiding students into highly selective engineering programs. What You’ll Do • Develop personalized college admissions strategies for engineering and STEM applicants, including course selection, academic rigor, technical extracurriculars, and project development • Evaluate technical coursework, research, competitions, internships, and independent projects in the context of selective admissions • Help students translate technical experiences into compelling application narratives and essays • Review applications and essays, providing detailed written and live feedback • Conduct mock admissions interviews and coach students on communicating technical interests clearly • Lead student and parent webinars focused on engineering and STEM admissions pathways • Maintain regular communication with students and families, guiding them through high-stakes decisions • Collaborate with other counselors to refine best practices for engineering-focused applicants Required Experience • Bachelor’s degree or higher, preferably in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field • Passion for mentoring high-achieving students (grades 7–12) • Experience advising students through the U.S. college admissions process • Deep familiarity with competitive undergraduate engineering and STEM admissions • Strong ability to assess student competitiveness, particularly in technical contexts • Comfort working with high-achieving students and families in high-pressure environments Strongly Preferred Background (Primary Priority) • Academic or professional background in engineering, computer science, or a closely related technical field • Prior experience as an engineer, technical practitioner, researcher, or in a STEM-focused industry role • Experience translating technical depth into admissions strategy and storytelling Also Considered (Secondary Priority) • Former admissions officers from engineering-focused schools or colleges • College admissions counselors with extensive experience placing students into competitive engineering or STEM programs • STEM educators or academic advisors with direct admissions advising exposure Preferred Qualifications • Graduate degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field • Industry experience in engineering, technology, or applied research in addition to admissions or counseling work • Demonstrated outcomes advising students admitted to highly competitive STEM programs (CS, EE, ME, biomedical engineering, applied math, etc.) Why Engineers Thrive at PathIvy • You work with motivated, high-caliber students • You apply your technical background in a people-facing, impact-driven role • You influence real outcomes without the bureaucracy of traditional education systems • Remote, flexible work with meaningful intellectual engagement Performance Milestones & Success Roadmap First 60 Days • Learn PathIvy’s counseling philosophy, tools, and student support systems • Begin supporting engineering-focused students under senior team guidance • Conduct student and parent meetings to assess academic and technical profiles • Review applications and essays with a focus on technical positioning First 6 Months • Independently manage a caseload of engineering and STEM applicants • Successfully guide students through school list development, essays, and submissions • Lead engineering-focused workshops or webinars • Build strong, trusted relationships with students and families First 12 Months • Demonstrate consistent student success in competitive engineering admissions • Be recognized internally as a go-to expert for engineering and STEM applicants • Contribute to refining PathIvy’s engineering admissions strategy and resources • Mentor newer counselors working with technical applicants
