The Service Engineer – Analytical Instruments will install, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment while providing exceptional technical support and training to customers.
Responsibilities
- Performs installations, repairs, and maintenance tasks on laboratory equipment and instruments following a varied set of procedures
- Inspects, tests, and adjusts malfunctioning components and parts
- Calibrates laboratory equipment to ensure safe and accurate operations, in line with standards and specifications
- Documents and reports calibration activities, repairs and product failures
- Provides technical support and training to customers on operational or maintenance aspects of equipment
- Serves as customer contact on equipment and instruments related problems
- Travels to customer site to provided services (installations, maintenance or calibrations)
- Adapts equipment and technology to serve user needs
- Provides technical support to customers related to instrumentation
- Document and report all repairs and product failures
- Provide equipment and improvements recommendations
- Help with the development of preventative maintenance procedures, IQ, OQ and PQ for the division
- Executes sequence of testing and calibration program for instruments and equipment according to blueprints, schematics, technical manuals, standards operating procedures and other specifications
- Diagnoses equipment failures (breakdowns) and repairs per manufacturers guidelines
- Performs preventative and corrective maintenance of test apparatus and peripheral equipment
- Confers with clients, group leader, and other technical workers to assist with equipment installation, maintenance, and repairs techniques
- Analyzes and converts test data, using mathematical formulas, and reports results and proposed modifications
- Sets up test equipment and conducts tests on instruments and equipment
- Disassembles and reassembles instruments and equipment, using hand tools, and inspects instruments and equipment for defects
- Sketches plans for developing jigs, fixtures, instruments, and related nonstandard apparatus
- Modifies performance and operation of component parts to specifications, using test equipment and precision instruments
- Conducts tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance
- Consults with clients on a regular basis regarding usage, placement and potential future needs of the equipment
- Recommends corrective actions to the customer when needed
- Trains customer on how to use the equipment
- Maintains technical skills through ongoing manufacturer’s certification and continuing education
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills
- 3 years related technical experience required
- Experience in preventive maintenance, IQ/OQ/PV, troubleshooting, repair, and calibration to analytical instruments; HPLC, GC, Spectrophotometer, electronic, and mechanical equipment
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance
- Analytical skills – Understands the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
- Bachelor's/ Associate's degree in Electronics, Instrumentation or Chemistry preferred
- Fully bilingual preferred
