AAAS is an organization focused on advancing science, and they are seeking a Senior Systems Analyst to enhance their cloud infrastructure and DevOps practices. The role involves designing, building, and maintaining AWS-based systems, as well as collaborating with various teams to improve operational workflows and deployment processes.
Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain AWS-based infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code practices
- Administer and optimize core AWS services including EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, VPC, and related services
- Implement security best practices for cloud environments in partnership with IT Security
- Monitor system health, performance, availability, and costs; proactively address reliability risks
- Participate in on-call rotations and incident response for systems owned by the role
- Design, implement, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as GitLab CI or Azure DevOps
- Partner with development teams to standardize build, deployment, and release workflows
- Improve deployment safety through automation, testing, validation, and rollback mechanisms
- Integrate security scanning, secrets management, and compliance controls into pipelines
- Document architectures, pipelines, operational procedures, and automation clearly and accurately
- Produce and maintain “as-built” and “as-operated” documentation to support IT Operations
- Serve as a technical partner to Application Development, Web Development, and IT Operations teams
- Provide tiered operational support and troubleshooting for cloud and deployment platforms
- Participate in infrastructure and platform initiatives aligned with AAAS technology strategy
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in systems administration, cloud engineering, or DevOps roles
- Hands-on experience operating production workloads in AWS or Azure environments
- Demonstrated experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps, or equivalent)
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools and automation practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on root-cause analysis
- Ability to work independently with defined objectives and broad technical latitude
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to collaborate across teams without formal authority
- Discipline in documentation, change management, and following established standards
