Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. simpleclub is an innovative company focused on transforming education through AI-native learning tools. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for owning the backend features of AI-powered educator tools and building data pipelines to enhance the learning experience.
Responsibilities
- Own backend features for AI-powered educator tools: architecture, implementation, deployment, observability. The whole lifecycle is yours
- Design and build data ingestion and transformation pipelines. Event sourcing, stream processing, aggregation layers for real-time and batch analytics
- Build and evolve APIs that serve learning insights and AI-generated content. Fast, well-documented, easy to integrate with
- Integrate LLM capabilities into the product: orchestration, structured output parsing, RAG, caching, cost control on model calls
- Use agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, or similar) as part of your daily workflow. Delegate scaffolding, test generation, and first-pass implementations to AI agents. Review, refine, and own what comes out
- Write specs, ADRs, and context docs that work for your teammates and your tooling. Good context engineering speeds up everything downstream
- Ship features with Flutter engineers, PM, and designer. Short cycles, tight feedback loops
- Find ways to automate repetitive engineering work with AI: CI checks, code review triage, doc generation, migration scripts
Skills
- 7+ years of backend development on production systems. You've owned services, debugged incidents at scale, mentored engineers, and made architecture decisions you had to live with
- Strong Node.js/TypeScript and GCP fundamentals (Firestore, BigQuery, Spanner, Cloud Functions, Pub/Sub)
- Experience with both NoSQL and SQL databases. You can reason about data modeling trade-offs, consistency guarantees, and query performance
- You already use AI coding tools daily. Show us your workflow, your prompt patterns, and how you structure context for agents
- Systems thinking. You think about failure modes, scalability, and data consistency up front
- Clear, async-first communication. You write well, share context without being asked, and document decisions. We're a remote-first, multinational team. English is the working language
- Experience putting LLMs into production: RAG pipelines, structured extraction, classification, prompt management, eval frameworks
- Background in ed-tech, learning analytics, or content generation
- Experience with event-driven architectures and stream processing at scale
- Infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and CI/CD pipeline ownership
- Experience in product trios or similar setups where engineers shape the product, not just build what's specced
- Hands-on Spanner experience for globally consistent, horizontally scalable workloads

- Unlimited paid holidays
- Work from anywhere
- Team events
- A great culture
- Perk Budget
