Confidential is an early-stage fintech startup building a data-rich payments product, and they are seeking an experienced engineer to join as a true founding-level contributor. The role involves owning significant parts of the backend and infrastructure, bringing stability to the product, and working closely with the founders to enhance the technical foundation of the team.
Responsibilities
- Own significant parts of our backend and infrastructure end to end, from architecture through deployment
- Bring structure and stability to a fast-moving, data-rich product where accuracy and reliability directly affect customer trust
- Scope ambiguous problems before diving in. We need someone who asks the right clarifying questions up front, not someone who starts coding before understanding the real problem
- Communicate proactively. If something is at risk of slipping, we want to know early, not find out after the fact
- Work directly with the founders, wearing whatever hat the day requires: backend, frontend, infrastructure, or product thinking
- Help build the technical foundation and practices that let a small team operate like a much larger one
Skills
- 10 to 15+ years of experience, including meaningful time at early-stage startups
- A track record of building 0 to 1, but more importantly, a track record of taking early-stage systems and making them more sophisticated, reliable, and maintainable
- Strong full-stack TypeScript, Node.js, and React
- Production experience with PostgreSQL
- Strong AWS fluency
- Comfort with ambiguity, ownership, and moving fast without sacrificing judgment
- High attention to detail. This is a data product, and small mistakes erode customer trust quickly
- Strong communication skills and high EQ. We want someone who over-communicates risk
