The Staff Accountant 2 is responsible for general ledger accounting activities, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and support of the monthly close process.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the integrity of the general ledger including preparation, review, and posting of journal entries
- Reconcile and maintain various balance sheet accounts
- Handle moderately complex accounting transactions in accordance with GAAP
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes and the annual financial statement audit
- Perform audits of financial data to ensure accuracy and adherence to company policies and procedures
- Collaborate with team members to gather, analyze, and interpret financial information
- Attend team meetings and other accounting-related meetings as required
- Assist with payroll processing by calculating commissions, gathering and validating payroll data, and coordinating with the third-party payroll provider
- Review payroll files and ensure payroll data reconciles to internal accounting records
- Calculate and prepare the payment and reporting of sales and other applicable taxes
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling sensitive financial information
- Adhere to internal controls to ensure financial security and data integrity
- Support the A/P department as needed, including invoice processing, vendor account reconciliations, payment postings, and responding to vendor inquiries
- Perform all other duties, as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- 2-4 years' experience working in progressive accounting roles
- Strong knowledge base of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and accounts payable procedures
- Thorough knowledge and demonstrated skills in matters related to accounting and financial policies, procedures, and reporting
- Demonstrated intermediate/expert knowledge and use of MS Office Suite
- Critical, analytical, and creative thinking to identify and solve problems
- Exceptional attention to detail, excellent organizational skills and ability to effectively prioritize work to meet deadlines
- Ability to meet deadlines while juggling multiple and sometimes competing priorities in a fast-paced, high volume environment

- Work experience utilizing accounting/financial software systems such as SalesForce and Certinia preferred
- Background in IT and/or government contracting preferred
