About MBI: MBI (Minnesota Brass Inc.) Performing Arts is a nonprofit organization based in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. MBI shares a unique passion for the live performing arts by producing ensembles and events, rooted in the drum and bugle corps tradition, that challenge our members to reach their full potential while inspiring our audiences. We currently support four distinct ensembles including a competitive drum and bugle corps, and three competitive indoor groups for percussion, color guard and winds. We often serve as a bridge between school-based music programs and national touring ensembles, offering rigorous training, creative expression, and accessible public performances. The Opportunity MBI seeks a detail-oriented, reliable contractor to manage and execute core marketing and social media activities. MBI has an existing brand, website, and communication channels. We are looking for a partner who can consistently produce and manage content, keep projects moving forward, and ensure our public presence is active, professional, and aligned. We are not seeking a high-level marketing strategist — we are seeking someone who can get the work done consistently and well. Scope of Work 1. Social media content execution Develop and publish social media content (primarily Instagram, with cross-posting as needed). Expected cadence: approximately 4 posts/month during the off-season and 8 posts/month during peak season. Write captions, select or create visuals, schedule, and post content directly. 2. Content creation (graphics & video) Create simple, engaging graphics and short-form visual content using Canva. Develop visual assets for social media, website stories, and email communications, maintaining a consistent style aligned with MBI's brand. 3. Website content management Develop a website content calendar with input from staff. Publish one new story or update per month in WordPress. Identify outdated pages and recommend updates; coordinate with leadership to gather needed content. 4. Email newsletter project management Serve as project manager for a monthly email newsletter. Coordinate content collection, draft structure, and ensure timely distribution using Constant Contact. 5. Content & asset organization Organize and maintain a shared Canva workspace. Ensure templates, graphics, and brand assets are easy to access and reuse. 6. Content coordination & follow-through Proactively identify content needs (e.g., missing website content, event promotion gaps). Work with MBI leadership and volunteers to gather necessary information and keep content projects moving forward. 7. Continuous improvement & practical input Provide a monthly dashboard of marketing KPIs and practical recommendations to improve marketing effectiveness, content cadence, and consistency. Identify opportunities to better tell MBI's story across platforms. Qualifications Required • Strong writing skills for social media and web content • Experience managing and executing content across social platforms • Experience working in WordPress • Experience using Canva or similar tools to generate graphics and video content • Strong organization and project management skills • Ability to manage multiple small tasks and deadlines independently • Reliable follow-through and communication Preferred (not required) • Experience working with arts organizations or small nonprofits • Familiarity with the marching arts, drum corps, or WGI ensembles • Experience managing email newsletters Working Style Work is primarily independent and remote, with a monthly check-in meeting with MBI leadership. The CEO provides final approval on key communications with approximately one week of lead time. Priorities will be aligned monthly to match the available level of effort. What Success Looks Like • Social media is active, consistent, and aligned with MBI's brand • Website content is current, engaging, and regularly updated • Email newsletters are consistently produced and well-organized • Marketing assets are organized and easy to use • Marketing metrics are reported regularly and demonstrate positive trends • MBI presents a more professional, cohesive public presence Potential for Growth MBI anticipates this role may evolve over time. If the partnership is successful and organizational capacity grows, there may be opportunities to expand hours and responsibilities. The immediate priority is consistent execution of core marketing activities.
