Job Title: Virtual School Social Worker (LMSW/LCSW) – Substance Abuse & Prevention Specialist Location: Remote (Must be based in or licensed to practice in New York State) Employment Type: Contract / Full-Time Caseload: K-12 Students (New York Public/Charter Schools) Position Overview We are seeking a proactive and clinical Licensed Social Worker (LMSW or LCSW) to join our virtual special education team. This role is specifically designed for a professional with a deep background in adolescent substance abuse counseling, focusing on the rising trends of vaping, alcohol use, and narcotic experimentation within the school system. Operating 100% remotely, you will provide critical intervention, crisis support, and preventative education to students across New York. You will act as the primary point of contact for students struggling with chemical dependency while maintaining compliance with NYSED (New York State Education Department) standards. Key Responsibilities Targeted Counseling: Conduct individual and group virtual therapy sessions focusing on substance misuse, recovery strategies, and harm reduction for drugs, alcohol, and vaping. Screening & Assessment: Utilize evidence-based screening tools (such as CRAFFT) to identify students at risk of dependency and develop personalized intervention plans. Virtual Crisis Response: Provide immediate remote support for students experiencing behavioral crises related to substance use. Documentation & IEPs: Maintain accurate case records, contribute to the Social History component of IEPs, and ensure all progress monitoring is documented in school-specific portals (e.g., SESIS or Frontline). Collaboration: Coordinate with NYS-based community resources, such as OASAS (Office of Addiction Services and Supports), for students requiring higher levels of care or residential treatment. Required Qualifications Licensure: Active New York State license as an LMSW or LCSW. Certification: Must hold (or be eligible for) NYS School Social Worker Certification. Specialized Experience: Minimum of 1 year experience in substance abuse counseling, specifically with a focus on vaping cessation and adolescent drug/alcohol prevention. Technical Proficiency: Comfort managing a "virtual office" using Zoom for Healthcare, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams. Compliance: Deep understanding of HIPAA, FERPA, and New York State mandated reporting laws. Preferred Skills CASAC / CASAC-T: Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor status is a significant plus. Bilingualism: Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable. Trauma-Informed Care: Experience with the intersection of trauma and chemical dependency. Technology Requirements High-speed, reliable internet connection.
