Taylor & Francis are seeking exceptional publishing professionals who can bridge local and global perspectives—individuals with the cultural insight to build trust within China's academic community and the communication skills to collaborate seamlessly with our international teams. These roles will be based in China, reporting into our global subject teams, and will play a pivotal role in elevating Taylor & Francis's presence and partnerships across Chinese academic institutions.
We are recruiting for three Publisher roles to join our Publishing team in China. These roles will manage our portfolio of journals in Science & Technology and Medicine, and Humanities and Social Sciences. With a specific focus on strengthening our partnerships and content pipeline within China's dynamic academic research landscape.
The successful candidates will be part of our highly motivated team, supporting Taylor & Francis's wider success through the strategic management and development of academic journals.
As part of our global cross-functional publishing team, these roles will work closely with colleagues and partners around the world—while being deeply embedded in China's academic research community.

What you will be doing:
• Manage a streamlined journal portfolio designed to give you capacity for high-touch stakeholder engagement
• Creating and delivering strategic development plans that drive quality, growth, and profitability for our curated portfolio of journals
• Deliver on ambitious growth targets aligned with regional objectives
• Overseeing and managing P&Ls under the direction of your manager. Success will be measured not just by portfolio performance, but by your impact on T&F's market penetration in China
• Conduct regular in-person visits to key Chinese universities, research institutions, and academic societies in collaboration with relevant teams
• Cultivate strategic partnerships with Chinese societies, university presses, and research centers
• Recruit and support Chinese editors and editorial board members
• Build relationships with key opinion leaders in Chinese academia
• Represent Taylor & Francis at conferences and academic events annually across China
• Host T&F booths, author workshops, networking receptions and training sessions on academic publishing at Chinese institutions in collaboration with relevant teams
• Build T&F's reputation as a trusted publishing partner in Chinese academic communities
• Monitor Chinese research trends, funding priorities, and policy developments
• Identify emerging research areas and partnership opportunities
• Provide market expertise and insights to global teams on Chinese market dynamics and opportunities
• Communicate effectively across time zones and cultural contexts
• Translate global strategies for local implementation and vice versa
• Facilitate connections between Chinese stakeholders and international colleagues
Qualifications
What we are looking for:
• Degree in a relevant field with understanding of academic research and publishing
• Experience of effective scholarly journals management, strategic journal development and growth plans (experience within the relevant subject areas would be an advantage, but other backgrounds will be considered)
• Experience working with external partners, including Editors, Editorial Boards, and Society leadership
• Experience with recruitment and engagement of external Academic Editors
• An understanding of financial reporting and analysis as they relate to academic journals and previous P&L responsibility
• Experience gathering competitive intelligence and performing market analysis
• Fluency in Mandarin and English (written and spoken)
• Excellent relationship management and communication skills - ability to build trust and credibility in Chinese academic circles
• Experience in academic publishing, scholarly communications, or related fields
• Cultural fluency - deep understanding of Chinese academic culture and ability to navigate both Chinese and international contexts
• Commercial awareness and ability to identify growth opportunities
• Availability and enthusiasm for frequent travel within China for conferences, meetings, and networking events
• Flexibility to work across time zones for global team collaboration
• Existing networks within Chinese academic communities (highly desirable)

What you should know:
• There are three positions available.
• These roles are open to candidates based in either Beijing or Shanghai. Candidates must have the right to work in China.
• We believe that great things happen when people connect face-to-face. That's why we work in-person with each other, or with customers and partners, three days a week or more. When you're not spending time together in one of our offices or other workplaces – like at conference – you get the flexibility and support to work from home or remotely.
• The successful candidate will be able to utilize our balanced working model. We ask that candidates live within a commutable distance to either our Beijing office (Cultural Square, Haidian) or Shanghai office (Shui on Plaza, Huang Pu) to ensure that as a balanced worker they can make it to our office location 3 days per week.
• Relocation support is not provided for this role.
