Public Health Vocabulary SME (Data Governance & Standards) Location: Remote (U.S.-based, including Washington, DC) Employment Type: Full-Time / Contract (depending on engagement) Clearance: Ability to obtain Public Trust Overview Our client is seeking a Public Health Vocabulary Subject Matter Expert (SME) to support a Data Governance and Data Standards initiative within a federal public health environment. This role will play a critical part in advancing data standardization, interoperability, and terminology modernization efforts across clinical, laboratory, and epidemiological systems. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in public health terminologies, data standards, and health informatics, with experience supporting federal or large-scale public health programs. Key Responsibilities • Design & Implement Terminology Solutions • Develop and integrate public health coding systems and standards (e.g., LOINC, SNOMED, ICD-10, FHIR) to enable seamless data exchange across systems. • Data Standards Strategy & Modernization Provide subject matter expertise on vocabulary standards and authoring processes to support modernization of terminology tools and frameworks. • Vocabulary Mapping & Standardization Research and map complex laboratory assays, clinical, and surveillance data to standardized vocabularies to ensure consistency and accuracy.Partner with cross-functional teams and development organizations to enhance existing standards and contribute to new standards development.Analyze and improve data quality across systems, supporting effective public health data collection, reporting, and surveillance.Apply domain expertise across federal, state, and local public health programs, ensuring compliance with evolving data standards.Required Qualifications • Collaboration & Standards Development • Data Quality & Analytics Support • Public Health Program Support • 10+ years of experience in public health terminology / informatics • Hands-on experience with standards such as: • LOINC • SNOMED CT • ICD-10-CM • FHIR / HL7 / USCDI+ • Strong knowledge of vocabulary authoring and data standards frameworks • Experience supporting data standards strategy and modernization initiatives • Ability to interpret complex laboratory, clinical, and surveillance terminology • Experience mapping data elements to standardized vocabularies • Bachelor’s degree (Public Health, Health Informatics, or related field) • Ability to obtain and maintain Public Trust clearance Preferred Qualifications • Experience in federal public health agencies (e.g., CDC, NIH, HHS) or state/local health departments • Experience implementing standards in clinical or laboratory systems • Proficiency in data tools: SQL, SAS, R, Python, Excel • Familiarity with PHIN VADS • Knowledge of infectious disease surveillance and public health informatics • Master’s degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or related field Pay: $75.00 - $90.00 per hour Work Location: Remote Apply tot his job Apply To this Job
