Summary: The Public Relations Intern supports the Director of Media and Public Relations in advancing team communication goals, including generating media impressions and elevating ASTHOs strategic priorities. Responsibilities include drafting news releases, statements, social media posts, and newsletter content; helping plan and promote media briefings; and tracking news for drafting and newsjacking opportunities.
Location: Remote
Undergraduate rate: $20.00 per hour
Graduate rate: $23.00 per hour
Duration & Hours: 3 months working 20 hours per week
Principal Functions:
Assists with drafting news releases and statements, social media posts, and newsletter content
Assists with planning and promoting media briefings
Assists with developing social media campaigns for audience expansion
Tracks and monitors news for newsjacking opportunities
Develops media lists and pitches stories to reporters
Utilizes Meltwater to follow social media and news mentions for all members, state and territorial health departments, and public health topics
Identifies topics for the Public Health Review Morning Edition newscast and books guests
Attends meetings with public relations team, program teams, and vendors
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a bachelor''s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a related field preferred
Healthcare experience preferred
Strong attention to detail
Strong oral and written communicator
