About the opportunity
We're looking for a Growth Engineer to join the First Table team and own the experimentation engine that shapes how diners discover and book.
This is a role for someone who thrives on speed, shipping A/B tests, optimising conversion funnels, and rapidly validating ideas across both web and mobile. You won't be building for the sake of it; every experiment has a hypothesis, every result moves the needle.
With clear OKRs and a dedicated Conversion & Growth function, you'll work closely with our Conversion Lead to drive measurable improvements to booking performance, onboarding, and customer experience, across our website and mobile apps.
This position can be based remotely from Auckland or at our Queenstown HQ.
About us
At First Table, our vision is simple: to be the first place diners go to book a table.
Proudly established in Queenstown, New Zealand, where our head office is based, we've been leading the charge in the hospitality tech industry for over a decade, with operations spanning New Zealand, Australia, and the UK.
First Table is a dining discovery platform that connects diners to restaurants through their love of food. Through our clever tech, we help restaurants get their night off to a great start and give diners a compelling reason to try somewhere new. From early bird offers to last table reservations, we make discovering and booking great dining experiences fast, easy, and rewarding.
At the heart of everything we do are our values: Win-Win-Win, Own It, and Grow Together. These guide how we show up for each other, our restaurant partners, and our diners, and they're a big part of what makes First Table a great place to work.
About the role
This is a hands-on growth engineering role focused on experimentation and conversion, working across our Next.js web platform and React Native / Expo mobile apps using shared React and TypeScript knowledge.
If you love shipping fast, learning from real data, and iterating until something works — you'll feel right at home here.
What you'll be doing
Build and iterate on customer-facing experiments across web and app, including A/B tests, onboarding flows, landing pages, and funnel improvements
Rapidly prototype and validate new customer experiences with a focus on learning speed over polish
Implement and optimise experiments using GrowthBook or similar experimentation and feature flagging platforms
Contribute event tracking and analytics instrumentation to measure experiment outcomes and customer behaviour
Work within our Next.js web and React Native / Expo mobile codebases, writing clean, maintainable TypeScript and React
Collaborate closely with Product, Design, Analytics, and Engineering to validate hypotheses and ship improvements that stick
What you'll bring
Solid experience in React and TypeScript across web and/or mobile (React Native experience a bonus)
A genuine interest in conversion optimisation, experimentation, and customer behaviour — not just writing code
Comfort working in fast-moving environments where not every experiment becomes a permanent feature
Familiarity with A/B testing, feature flagging, and analytics tooling
Strong communication skills and the ability to work autonomously across cross-functional teams
An ownership mindset: you care about outcomes, not just output
Why you'll love working with us
Direct impact on the metrics that matter — your experiments shape the customer experience for diners across NZ, AU, and the UK
High-autonomy role in a team that values speed, learning, and pragmatism
Work from our Queenstown HQ (fun office culture, regular social events, 1 WFH day per week) or Auckland, where the team works remotely and connects regularly for collaboration and catch-ups
Perks including free First Table bookings, referral incentives, team recognition, and regular opportunities to celebrate wins
Join a beloved consumer brand that is purpose-led, award-winning, and values creativity, collaboration, and growth
