**Job Summary**
We're seeking an experienced Customer Service Representative to join our team in a part-time capacity. As a key member of our customer service team, you'll be responsible for providing exceptional service to our utility customers, resolving complex issues, and ensuring customer satisfaction. You'll work closely with other functional areas to resolve customer inquiries, investigate complaints, and provide timely follow-up to ensure customer satisfaction.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Provide exceptional customer service to utility customers via phone, email, and in-person interactions
- Resolve complex customer complaints and issues in a timely and professional manner
- Investigate customer complaints concerning services and billings, examining bills, meter readings, and related records to determine validity
- Notify customers and appropriate personnel of findings and/or adjustments
- Follow up on actions taken to ensure customer satisfaction
- Write letters to businesses and customers in response to inquiries
- Arrange for special pick-ups and contacts service workers regarding complaint work
- Process new account requests for water, sewer, and garbage accounts and input appropriate data
- Sort mail on a daily basis
- Process work orders and service orders
- Prioritize job duties and perform related work as necessary
**Essential Qualifications**
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience in utility customer service and/or Central Square billing software is preferred
- Knowledge of utility billing, municipal laws, policies, and practices
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and clerical principles and methods
- Ability to use Excel spreadsheets and Word documents
- Ability to compose correspondence
- Ability to communicate with irate customers in a courteous manner
- Ability to calmly resolve customer inquiries and work well under stress
- Ability to type and file
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required
**Preferred Qualifications**
- Experience working in a customer service role, preferably in a utility or municipal setting
- Knowledge of Neptune Reading software
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
