Position Summary As a nationally accredited program with a strong educational mission within the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) investigates any death occurring in New Mexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected, or where a person is found deceased and the cause of death is unknown. As a special program within the Department of Pathology, OMI determines the cause and manner of death in these cases and provides formal death certification. OMI is seeking a Counselor or Social Worker Contractor to partner with OMI’s Grief Services Program in companioning grieving New Mexico residents impacted by loss and/or traumatic loss. This contractual position allows for the same dedication to serving grieving children, adults, couples, and families, while maintaining flexibility in scheduling and caseload. A contractor Counselor or Social Worker can choose to offer grief companioning in their preferred format(s) (Face-to-face, Telehealth Zoom, or Telehealth Phone), and receive clinical supervision for those pursuing independent licensure. The Grief Services Program provides short-term grief counseling to the families of New Mexico whose loved one came through OMI, as well as information for survivors of victims of crime, referrals for additional services, and advocacy. Key Responsibilities · Provide short-term, trauma-informed, grief companioning counseling to individuals and families, to adults and children, who have lost a loved one, including sudden, violent, or unexpected losses. · Provide information and referrals to CVRC for families bereaved by homicide or vehicular homicide. · Assess needs and coordinate referrals to appropriate community agencies and longer-term support services. Conditions of Contracting Education: Master's-level degree or higher in clinical social work (LCSW) or clinical mental health counseling (LPC or LMHC) from a fully accredited educational institution. Accepted accreditation entities include the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), CACREP, or American Psychological Association (APA). Licensure: Candidate must be independently-licensed and certified by the state of New Mexico or, they must clearly indicate a need for Master’s-level clinical supervision, in the pursuit of independent licensure. Preferred Qualifications 1 year or more of directly-related experience. Must provide proof of current licensure. Must provide an up-to-date resume. Must submit to a background check. Must provide proof of current liability insurance (1 million occurrence, and 3 million aggregate for liability). Must be able to be set up as a UNM vendor. Pay $75.00 per scheduled session; $90.00 per scheduled session in Spanish; $10 per client No-Show.
