Job Description:
Hi! I’m working on a deeply personal memoir based on 14 years of journaling, and I’m applying to a competitive writing fellowship. I’m looking for a skilled writer/editor who can help me shape my ideas into a strong, clear, and compelling submission.
This project is very meaningful to me—it’s a reflection on personal growth, identity, relationships, and transformation over time. I have extensive raw material (journal entries), but I need help organizing, refining, and presenting it in a way that feels cohesive and impactful.
What I need help with:
Writing/editing a 1-page proposal for a memoir-in-progress (including a strong synopsis)
Crafting a Statement of Need (why this fellowship matters for me right now)
Helping shape the overall narrative direction of my memoir
Light editing/structuring guidance for my manuscript sample (50–70 pages)
Ensuring everything aligns with fellowship submission guidelines
Maintaining an authentic voice (very important)
About the memoir:
The book is based on my personal journals over the past 14 years. It captures moments of growth, challenges, relationships, and self-discovery. The tone is reflective, honest, and introspective—similar to a blend of personal narrative and emotional insight.
Ideal candidate:
Experience with memoir or creative nonfiction
Familiar with fellowship or book proposal submissions
Strong at story structure, voice, and emotional clarity
Able to take raw, personal writing and help shape it into something cohesive
Collaborative and thoughtful in feedback
Bonus (not required):
Experience working with journal-based or diary-style writing
Background in publishing, editing, or MFA programs
Deliverables:
1-page Proposal (with synopsis)
1-page Statement of Need
Feedback and edits on manuscript sample
Timeline:
4/30/2026
To apply:
